Ink ribbon cassette esp. for typewriter has two guide arms between which the ribbon passes in front of the typing position. The ribbon has two differently coloured, longitudinally running regions. The cassette can be swivelled about a longitudinal axis to permit the desired colour to be printed. The guide surfaces (14, 17) for the ribbon as it approaches the guide arms are inclined forwards or backwards in the bend region (14a, 17a) or in the guide region (14b, 17b), or in both, transverse to the direction of ribbon travel. The design ensures that a defined reference position is guaranteed for the ribbon for cassettes with external ribbon guides.
