<p>1504844 Nails EATON CORP 10 March 1976 [10 March 1975] 09616/76 Heading F2H A sheet metal nail 10 with a head 14 extending in a plane at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the shank 12, the shank having a V- shaped leading edge 26 and at least one tang 16 extending outwardly from a face of the shank, has a protrusion 30 provided on said face of the shank between the tang 16 and the leading edge 26, axially aligned with the tang. The nail is used to secure insulation material B to a sheet metal deck A, the leading edge 26 piercing the deck A. The protrusion 30 makes a local widening of the aperture pierced in the deck A so that the tang, or the leading tang, is not damaged as it passes through the deck. As shown, the shank 12 is arcuate in transverse cross-section and has two rows of tangs 16 projecting from its convex face. A protrusion 30 leads each row of tangs. A hole 28 in the shank near the tip allows, e.g. wires or a false ceiling to be suspended from the deck. Extensions 24 at the sides of the shank support the head 14 as the nail is driven in.</p> |
