<p>The anchor is placed in the sea using an hydraulic motor driven borer suspended at the end of a chin (7). Pairs of flukes (9) are spaced along the chain, the flukes being retracted until the borer has reached a desired depth. The flukes are pref. extended simultaneously using hydraulic rams (14), the flukes being pivoted about common axes. The system is designed esp. for use in sea beds with a low cohesive strength. The flukes may be held retracted by pins which fracture on actuation of the rams.</p> |
