Mechanical forging press, esp. for the hollow forging of metal workpieces, steel fittings etc., where the workpiece blank is held and possibly preforged by a vertical inner punch located concentrailly inside an outer ring punch driven independently from punch. Punch is fitted with wedge-shaped extensions driving side punches inwards when punch is lowered, for forming the outside or ends of the workpiece; instead of the driving wedges, a toggle- or elbow lever drive can be used to actuate punches. All the punches are operated mechanically; and punches work in a horizontal direction, i.e. at 90 degrees to the vertical movement of punches. Punches are in contact with the workpiece for a min. amt. of time, so their working life is increased.
