摘要 1504676 Fuel cell with silicon carbide matrix UNITED TECHNOLOGIES CORP 16 Aug 1976 [2 Sept 1975] 34017/76 Heading H1B A fuel cell comprising a pair of spaced apart gas diffusion electrodes, a porous electrolyte retaining matrix between the electrodes and phosphonic acid electrolyte disposed within the matrix wherein the matrix comprises at least 90% silicon carbide and up to 10% binder (e.g. P.T.F.E. or F.E.P.). The silicon carbide matrix may be in the form of fibres or particles of up to 25 Á size and may be formed by spray coating both electrodes or applying a single layer to one electrode. The electrodes may comprise Platinum Block catalyst on P.T.F.E. impregnated carbon paper and the cell may use air or oxygen as the oxidant and hydrogen or reformed natural gas as the fuel.
