1504071 Band filter JAPAN STEEL WORKS Ltd 5 Jan 1976 [20 Feb 1975] 00238/76 Heading BID [Also in Division B5] Apparatus for incorporating into an extruder for plastics, comprises a body 4 which can be detachably mounted on extruder body 1 and a filter band 15 which passes through inlet slit 6, around rotatable breaker drum 10 and then through outlet slit 7. As shown the body 4 is provided with heating passages 5 and cooling passages 8a, b, c and adjacent the inlet end of slit 7, a valve 19 and scraper 20. In use, the band is moved only when it is desired to replace a clogged portion of the band. The inner ends of the slits are sealed by plastics plugs which are formed as a result of the cooling action of the passages 8a. h, c on the plastics undergoing extrusion.
