Meter for accurate monitoring of machine tables - has micrometer driven by stepping motor and counter to record number of stepping pulses

The metrology appts. is for the precision variations in the dimensions of machine work tables, esp. in large factories. The device operates in combination with hydrostatic measuring units. The measurement unit consists of a wire of low temperature coefficient of expansion iron-nickel alloy and of a micrometer set. The micrometer screw is driven by a stepping motor, with the number of stepping pulses necessary for the motor drive corresponding to a certain advance. Thus the respective length of the micrometer unit can be derived from the number of pulses between a zero position and a contact on the above wire.
