Working up used rubber tyres to give a fuel - by freezing tyres with liq. carbon di:oxide to produce brittle tyre and comminuting

Used rubber tyres are worked up into usable scrap by embrittling the tyres by cooling with liquefied or solid CO2 and comminuting them. the liquefied or solid CO2 is obtd. in known manner, from gaseous CO2 or industrial gaseous effluents contg. CO2. The liquefied CO2 expands into a zone whre the rubber tyres are located. Pref. the gaseous effluents are flue gases from a cement making plant. Before liquefaction or solidification, the CO2 gas is purified to >=95, (98) vol.%. The embrittled tyres are ground into granules or powders. The rubber waste particles my be used as fuel for prodn. of CO2-contg. effluents. The CO2 may, in turn, be liquefied or solidified and used for embrittling tyres. Method provides useful application of gaseous waste. The process is more economic than prior-art methods.
