Garbage and/or thickened sludge are converted to compost in a treatment chamber where an air stream encourages the aerobic conversion. The hot waste gases are extracted and passed through a heat exchanger where dry fresh air is heated before admission to a mixer. Garbage and/or sludge are stirred in the latter by an agitator, heated and enriched by the fresh air and charged by a proportioner to the treatment chamber. Process utilises the waste heat contained in the air leaving the treatment chamber and reduces the retention time for the material in this chamber considerably.
|
