The curler consists of a basic part (2) which can be positioned in one basic position and in at least splayed out positions with enlarged cross-section. The basic part (2) has a slot (21) which can be altered in internal width for the strands of hair to be curled, and the then closed in its basic position. An axially adjustable axle piece (5) has an expanding cone (6) which fits into the winder piece (2). The expanding cone (6) tapers from the outside to the inside of the winder piece (2) into a cylindrical mounting part (8) with joint (9). To prevent the curler unwinding, a support arm (25) acts as a securing device (24) at one end on the curler piece, and hinged to the axle piece (5).
