A washing process for washing machines utilises ultrasonic waves and involves moving the washing drum to and fro by means of a drive engine during the reversing operation of the drum. The production of ultrasound is undertaken temporally alternatingly and only during the stoppage pauses of the drive engine. The associated washing machine features a drive motor and an ultrasonic generator or converter which are connected in parallel to the direct current output of a mains rectifier. ADVANTAGE - The process cuts the washing time, rationalises electricity supply and the regulation of the ultrasonic generator, and treats the washing gently.
