The milling cutter has teeth (4) each with a plane front face which is inclined relative to the axis of revolution. The peripheral face of each tooth follows the external contours of the milling head. The teeth may be provided with demountable hard-metal cutting inserts (6) and may provide intermittent or continuous cutting edges (11). In the former case, the successive teeth sections are offset relative to one another in the axial sense. The teeth may be of a composite construction, and the angle of obliquity of the tool may be 10 deg. or more.
