The self-lubricating bearing for a ships propeller is made from upper (1) and lower (2) parts, divided on the horizontal centre line of the propeller shaft (8). A lubricating roller (12) protrudes through a hole in the lower port, to apply lubricant to the underside of the shaft. This roller dips into oil held in the lower part of a pedestal (8) supporting the bearing. It acts on a lubricant pump with the shaft for either direction of shaft rotation. The bearing has flanges extending sideways which rest on the sides of the pedestal, with resilient pads between the flanges and the pedestal sides. Alternatively, the flanges have spherical surfaces which fit against spherical seatings in the sides of the pedestal.
|
