<p>Nitrofuran derivs. of formula (I) are new: (where R is phenyl substd. by 1-3 gps. selected from halogen, OH, NO2, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, acetylamino and piperidino, or R is pyridyl or naphthyl, provided that R is not p-chloro-, p-nitro- or p-methoxyphenyl). Also disclosed as new (but not claimed) are cpds. (I) where R is phenyl and p-chloro-, p-nitro- and p-methoxyphenyl, and where CHCOR is 1-oxo-3,4-dihydro-2-naphthylidene. Cpds. (I) are antibacterial agents with selective activity against Staphylococci (MIC = 1-10 mu g/ml. against London strain). They are esp. useful for treating intestinal and cutaneous infections. In an example, (I; R = Ph) is prepd. from 5-nitro-2-furfural and acetophenone.</p> |
