1530678 Power steering systems; driving auxiliary apparatus CLARK EQUIPMENT CO 26 July 1976 [7 Aug 1975], 31007/76 Heading B7H A hydrostatic steering system comprises a steering control unit 22 having a metering pump 50 and a metering valve 52 operated by a steering wheel, steering rams 14 connected to steerable wheels, a servo pump 24 driven by an electric motor 32 for supplying pressure fluid to the rams 14, and an electric motor control 34 which responds to operation of the steering control unit 22 so that the pump 24 is driven intermittently and at a variable output in response to and as a function of the degree of operation of the steering wheel. The motor control unit 34 includes a variable resistor 72 in the form of a compressible carbon pile which is variable compressed by an hydraulic actuator 74 whenever pressure appearing at one of the outlets from the metering pump 50 displaces a control valve 36 so that the pressure can act on the piston of the actuator. In another embodiment the motor control unit includes a solid state D.C. motor controller of the SCR or power transistor type. |
