Countersunk bore protector is formed by a plug which is inserted into the bore. Used in protecting bearing housings of railway rolling stock. Plugs do not fall out of bores during shunting of rolling stock. The plug which is pref. made of polyurethane has a frusto-conical, domed head and a split cylindrical spigot, which is splayed out in the bore using a screw. Alternatively, the shank can be frusto-conical and pressed into the bore in which it is retained by friction. Head may be provided with a peripheral flange which abuts the surface adjacent the countersunk bore to prevent dirt ingress.
