In the prodn. of high press. or temp. in gases and useful in the application and testing of phase changes in gaseous liq. and solid materials as in the main patent, appts. is used in which a suspended pump is employed to introduce a suitable liq. to a predetermined level in a pressure chamber. Gas is pumped in strokes via the dead space and a valve to a rated value so that it bubbles or diffuses up through the liq. in a quasi-liq. phase. A portion is stored in an upper space in the system and the liq. level is reduced by discharging some via a testing measuring and extracting tube, the proportion of gas in the charge vol. being increased. Claimed procedure include the formation of metallic hydrogen as a stable phase and the prodn. of diamond from graphite.
