1280450 Power and free conveyor systems PFALZSTAHLBAU GmbH 30 Dec 1970 [31 Dec 1969 18 Nov 1970 20 Nov 1970] 61833/70 Heading B7L A power and free conveyor system comprises an endlesss chain 3 having drive means 2 connected therewith adapted to engage trolleys 4 running on a track 1, each drive means consisting of a pivoted latching arm 11 having a nose 13 which retains a pivoted drive arm 12 against a rear abutment surface on a wheel cap 20 of the trolley the front end of the cap being curved at 22 to allow arm 11 to remain in its latching position with respect to arm 12. To disconnect a trolley from its drive means a member 18 is inserted in the trolley path by an electromagnet 14 and the arm 11 in riding over this member releases the arm 12 which pivots clockwise. The drive means is released in a similar manner when two trolleys abut since the rear wheel cap 23 of the preceding trolley is shaped like the member 18. A notch for directing trolleys from the main track 1 to a side track 37 consists of a tongue 35 pivoted at 36 and movable between the two tracks by an electromagnet 42 and lever 38. The lever is pivoted at its mid point 381 and connected to the tongue by pin and slot means 39, 40 and to the magnet 42 by a spring 41. A return spring 43 biases the lever to the main trade position. In the side track position of the lever 38 the line joining the pin 39 and pivot 38<SP>1</SP> is at 90 degrees to the slot 40. A catch 60 biased to the raised position shown prevents trolleys from rolling back at the location of the switch after the front trolley wheels have passed over it. Normally the track on which the trolley run is of circular section but in the region of the switch it is of rectangular section and the trolley wheels, Fig. 8 are provided with two sets of running surfaces 57, 58 |
