A wind driven turbine is placed within a shaft formed by solid walls with openings in them. The openings are normally closed by steel covers which are held in place by a spring. Excessive wind speeds depress levers which rotate the steel covers to uncover the openings and divert a portion of the wind from the turbine. The turbine turns a series of pulley wheels which lift weights suspended on an endless chain running over the pulleys. When the wind drops the weights are allowed to fall and by reversing the action of the pulleys rotate the turbine to continue the production of energy. The turbine can thus have a constant output in spite of variations in wind speed. |
