1492023 Escin polysulphate esters DR MADAUS & CO 7 July 1976 [11 July 1975] 28231/76 Heading C2U [Also in Division A5] The invention comprises escin polysulphates (preferably containing 7-9 sulphate ester groups per molecule of escin) and pharmacologically compatible salts (e.g. Na) thereof; and their preparation from escin by reaction with chlorosulphonic acid in an electron-donor solvent (e.g. pyridine, dioxan or formamide) at up to 100‹ C., followed when required by salification. Crystalline escin is obtained by extracting comminuted seeds of Aesculus hippocastanum with an optionally aqueous C 1-3 alkanol, treating the extract with an acidic cation exchanger, and evaporating the treated extract. The salts of the above polysulphate esters are credited with oedema-reducing, antithrombitic, anti-exudative, anti-phlogistic and heparin-like properties, and may be made up with carriers into pharmaceutical compositions for topical and parenteral administration. |
