Carbamates derived from acid S - by conversion to acid azide then reaction with alcohols, useful as antimycotics

The carbamates of formula (I) are new: (X = lower alkyl excluding tert. butyl). Also new are (i) the azide (cpd. (II)) in which the XOCONH-gp. of (I) is replaced by N3OC, and (ii) the di-O-acetate of (I; X = C2H5). (I) are antibiotics effective against fungi such as Histoplasma capsulatum and Microsporum fulvum (in vitro MIC's 1.56-0.49 mug/ml.). They are useful for treating dermatophytic and systemic mycoses in humans and animals. In an example, (I; X = Et) was prepd. by refluxing ethanol with (II) (prepd. from the natural product 'Acid S' and diphenylphosphoric acid azide).
