A yarn treatment composition for dry-sizing or melt-waxing synthetic filament yarns composed of polyamide and polyester material and synthetic staple yarns and blends thereof with cellulose fibres and wool. The yarn treatment composition obviates the need for separate sizing. It consists essentially of a polyalkylene oxide having an average molecular weight of 1,000 to 2,000 and an ester obtained from a saturated fatty acid of chain length C16 to C20 and a polyalkylene oxide having an average molecular weight of 3,000 to 6,000 in a molar ratio of fatty acid to alkylene oxide of 1:0.75 to 1:1. The novel composition is simple to apply, cutting the cost of sizing to 1/10.
