A composite component, such as structural member, composite plate or the like, comprises metal upper and lower plates or members and a plastics esp. thermoplastic foam intermediate web portion or sandwich layer between these. This plastic sandwich layer contains one or more stabilising or reinforcing bars or plates extending longitudinally and/or transversely and/or vertically, these reinforcing bars or plates are perforated, so that they are thoroughly embedded in and with the plastic material. The reinforcing plates may be either parallel to or perpendicular to the planes of the main members. By incorporating reinforcing members into the soft plastic core, distortions produced by heat mfg. processes etc. are considerably reduced and dimensional accuracy is thus increased.
