Hydraulic shock absorber for torque meter - has flow gap maintained between piston and cylinder walls by frictionless captive rollers

The double acting hydraulic shock absorber is used esp. in machines for measuring the torque of production machinery. The faces between piston and cylinder wall ensure good and uniform sealing of the chambers. The damping characteristics are determined by the shape of the damping piston. The cylinder and piston sliding faces are not in contact and have profiles which increase flow resistance. The damping chambers are connected to each other with overflow holes (8). The piston is guided by three guide rollers concentric within the cylinder. The rollers avoid stiction which might upset the readings of the meter.
