<p>Novel, abrasive, high hardness compsns. consist of a dispersion of 1-40% 0.5-100 u SiC grains in a matrix of polycrystalline Al2O3. The compsns. are prepd. by sintering the chosen mixt. of Al2O3 and SiC at =1900 (1500-1960) degrees C under a pressure of =300 (100-300) bars in a non-oxidising atmosphere for 1-24 hrs. The SiC is added to molten Al2P3 and mixed in, and the mixt. is cooled rapidly. Used for mfr. of metal-machining tools, abrasives, with or without binder, for working tools for piercing drilling and boring esp. into hard rock, mfr. of wire drawing dies, wire-guides, and all kinds of wear resistant parts, etc.</p> |
