Steam and gas jet for underground fire fighting - has kerosene and air mixer with zigzag flow path preceding water injector

The apparatus generates a steam and gas mixture for putting out fires underground. It has a cylindrical combustion chamber (2) with a fan (1) in a diverging portion at the inlet end, and a double walled converging end forming a water jacket, the cylindrical part inbetween also being double walled (5, 6). A plate following the fan carries an ignition device, and is preceded by a ring which supplies kerosene (14) to a ring of jets (13) discharging into the space (7) between the double walls. The kerosene travels around this space, then returns to mix with air (11) passing through a pattern of holes in the plate. Partitions inside the chamber forming this space cause the kerosene to travel along a zig-zag path before being discharged. The air and kerosene mixture then passes a ring of water discharge holes from the final double walled part forming a water (9) supply source.
