<p>A device for sterilising liquids such as water consists of UV-emitters to irradiate the water as it flows through a pipe of UV-transparent material. The UV-emitters are housed within the water in the pipe and the outer surface of the pipe is coated with a reflective material for UV-radiation. Pref. the pipe is of quartz and the coating is of vapour-deposited aluminium or of aluminium foil. In a pref. arrangement, a number of UV emitters are arranged concentrically about the central axis. Increased effectiveness of use of the radiation is obtd. due to the high reflection from the walls without absorption which occurs when the emitters are arranged external to the pipe.</p> |
