The fuel pump (1) for a motor car has a diaphragm (19) actuated by a lever (5) operated by a cam (11) driven by the engine. The pump is fitted with an inlet valve (57) and a delivery valve (58). The inlet valve is closed by a spring exerting a force of about 60 grams so that it is opened by the pump suction. The delivery valve is fitted with a spring exerting a force of 200 to 225 grams which can be overcome by the pressure exerted by the pump. But in the event of an accident, the pressure head of fuel in the tank is insufficient to open the valve and so fuel leakage is prevented. |
