<p>Method comprises dissolving sample in a solvent; depositing some of the soln. on a needle, eliminating the solvent; and introducing the needle into the injection chamber. The needle or cavities on its surface, which hold the solid, the a button at the other end. Alternately, the cavities can be formed by a sintered part connected to a solid metal shaft. Compared with existing methods, a larger quantity of sample can be introduced, increasing the sensitivity of the appts., partic. e.g. in estimating steroid cpds. The absence of solvent avoids pollution if the ionisation chambers when the appts. is used in conjuction with a mass spectrometer. The life of the column is increased. The appts. can be used for automating the introduction of samples. Process and the appts. can be used for quantitative analysis, as well as qualitative, in which case the sample and a known standard are deposited on the needle simultaneously.</p> |
