1490447 Plastics containers POLYSAR Ltd 4 Sept 1975 [11 Sept 1974] 36550/75 Heading B8C A curved plastics container 10 comprises a laminate cover 13 comprising an inner plastics layer 15 sealed to the upper end 11 of the body wall and, weakly adhering to the outer surface of the inner plastics layer, at least one outer plastics layer 16, so shaped and formed as to act as a press-on lid for the container when separated from said inner plastics layer 15. The plastics container 10, 20, formed of two strongly-adhering layers 17, 18, has an upper flange 11 with a depending edge 12, the cover 13, which comprises two layers 15, 16 weaklyadhered together and has a corresponding depending edge 14, having its inner layer 15 hermetically sealed to the container flange 11, 12. Figs. 2-4 show alternative forms for the rim and cover for a container. The rim of the cover 150, Fig. 2, has a recess 157 to assist in the removal of the lid, the containers shown in Figs. 2 and 3 being formed of a single layer of plastics. For single wall containers the plastics materials are preferably selected from polyethylene, polyproylene, PVC, acrylonitrilebutadiene-styrene resins, polystyrene; and for laminates, from polyethylene-polystyrene, polyethylene-high-impact polystyrene, PVC-polystyrene, and high-impact polystyrene-polystyrene. Plastics materials can be selected from, for the inner layer, polyethylene, polypropylene, PVC and high-impact polystyrene, and for the outer layer, or layers, high impact polystyrene and high impact polystyrene/crystal polystyrene. A silicone release agent is interposed between the inner layer of the lid and the next adjacent, outer layer. The inner layer of the cover is sealed to the upper end of the container by a sealing process selected from heat sealing, friction, or spin, welding, ultrasonic welding, heat shrinking and adhesive sealing, the seal being effected along the flange 11 and/or at the edge 12. The inner layer of the cover may be transparent, and the outer layer, and the outside wall of the container, may include colourization, printing and decorative trim.
