Feedstuff for bees consists of maltose syrup (I) obtd by enzymatic hydrloysis of starch, which (a) has a maltose content such that it does not crystallise; (b) is free from substances toxic to bees and (c) has contents of polysaccharides, minerals and reversion prods. in each case below the value which is unacceptable to bees. (I) may be combined with other prods. equally acceptable to the bees e.g. a glucose-rich syrup, glucose, isomerised glucose or fructose, provided that the compsn. does not crystallise. (I) is cheaper than pure sugar, and when used with corn steep liquor, increases the half-life of bees feeding on. The liquor can also be used to fortify feeds based on sucrose and/or isomerised glucose.
|
