Solid electrolyte battery for the conversion of chemical energy obtd. by the electrochemical oxidn. of a fuel gas contg. hydrogen and/or a gaseous H cpd. into electrical energy used a series of tubular cells, the sheathing electrodes of which are connected with an electrode of opposite polarity of the adjacent cell. The cells are pressed flush at their smooth ends by spring(s). The Ni-contg. fuel electrodes extend over one end and the counter electrodes, which are resistant to oxidising and redusing atmosphere over the other end of the cells. At the contact points, the electrodes are gas-tight and conduct electrons. The construction is simpler and cheaper and the operating properties are better than usual. |
