PRODUCTION OF TECHNETIUM-LABELED COMPLEXES

A radioactive pertechnetate is reduced in the presence of an aliphatic C2-C15-dimercapto compound which contains a particular number of hydroxyl, carboxyl and sulpho groups for every 3 C atoms, e.g. dimercapto-succinic acid, -glutaric acid or -adipic acid, at pH 1 to 3. The resulting complex compounds of technetium-99m accumulate in the kidney and remain there considerably longer than when they are prepared at neutral or alkaline pH; this means that scintigraphic investigation can be carried out with a conventional gamma camera in place of a high-performance instrument.
