<p>The principal application is in the power supplies for television receivers equipped with solid state circuitry. Choppers acting as power converters normally operate in a manner similar to a blocking oscillator. The frequency changes depending on load and the synchronisation with the line scanner are thus problematic. The problem may be substantially overcome by placing a damping element between the switching transistor and the transformer primary winding. This damper comprises a diode with the same current flow direction as the transistor, and a parallel connected resistor. The damper counteracts the switching effects in the transformer secondary windings and helps to inhibit self oscillation.</p> |
