The method and the device serve to reduce the relative air humidity in a room heated with an open hearth fire. For this purpose, air is introduced from outside under pressure into a pipe system (8) lying in the region of the open hearth fire. In this, the air is heated by the fire heat, as a result of which its relative humidity value sinks. At the end of the pipe system, the heated air is delivered into the room again. The pipe system (8) covers a considerable part of the fire area (7) of the hearth, maintaining a distance from the inner hearth floor which is suitable for the supply of the oxygen of the combustion air from below. By means of this device, it is possible to influence the disadvantageous humidity values arising in rooms intended for living in for the better. <IMAGE>
