Optical brighteners for organic materials, opt. incorporated to or applied to surface of substrates, or opt. added to soaps and detergents, consist of cpds. of formula (I): (where A and B are aromatic, mono- or polynuclear ring systems bonded with furan ring by means of 2 adjacent C atoms; R and S are H or halogen, lower alkyl, opt. alkyl-, alkoxy- or halogen-substd. Ph and opt. functionally converted carboxy or sulpho gps., and D is a divalent aliphatic, aromatic or heteroaromatic bonding continuing conjugation). They are pref. prepd. by reacting carboxylic acid derivs. with carboxylic acid derivs. (where one of Z and Z' is halogen and athe other is -NHNH2) and dehydrating diacylhydrazides obtd. |
