The magnetic conveyor moves magnetically conductive items vertically and/or horizontally, having a number of permanent magnets fixed to a common support plate. The pole faces lie in a common working plane, and are arranged in a grid pattern with alternate polarities. An ejector of non-magnetic material moves at right angle to the working plane to release the items. Slot-shaped gaps are left between the magnets (3), and the ejector is in the form of a grating (11) accommodated in the gaps. This moves between the retracted position behind the pole faces, and the ejection position proud of them.
