In order to avoid smearing of the print on the web of paper (6) when passing over the turning bar (1), an air cushion is built up between the web of paper (6) and the outer surface of the turning bar. This purpose is served by the interior of the turning bar (1) as an air space (7) which is provided with an air outlet channel (8) which opens out into the gap between the outer surface of the turning bar (1) and the web of paper (6) and passes over the entire length of the turning bar (1). The air outlet channel (8) is located in the inlet region of the web of paper (6) and has a slot (8b) which runs approximately tangentially and opens towards the outside. One edge of the slot (8b) is formed by a covering strip (9) which is arranged so as to be tiltable and is fitted with a plurality of zone screws, thus providing in a simple manner a blocking or adjustability of the outlet cross-section of the air outlet channel (8) over the entire length thereof. <IMAGE>
