<p>In order to reduce the amt. of dust, usually associated with handling of the scrap lead, the scrap is sprayed with a wetting agent to bind the dust, and charged to vessels. The vessels filled with the scrap are weighed and charged to a tunnel furnace in which is maintained a reducing atm. and a temp. sufficient for melting the metal. After exit from the furnace the liq. metal is transferred from the vessel to a ladle and the emptied vessel is again weighed. Impurities floating in solid form on top of the molten lead are transferred after cooling by means of low pressure suction to a unit which is protected against dust. Process gives a simple weight control, avoids the formation of dust during unloading, and oxidation during melting. Oxides are removed without dust troubles.</p> |
