Yarns are textured by being accelerated to a predetermined speed and then at a point along their path being abruptly stopped. The yarns are made to adhere to the surface of a rotating cylinder and allowed to run up against an obstruction positioned very close to the cylindrical mantle, in the manner of a doctor blade, so that when they strike this, the filaments are crimped. Alternatively, the obstruction may be used to build up the yarn with the upstream face of the wad forming the stoppage and crimping the yarn. Method cuts out the disadvantages of stuffing boxes with their slower speeds, quick wearing of components entailing stoppages for replacements, etc. A wide range of different yarns can be processed at very high working speeds on a machine of simple and compact design. The yarn to be textured can be fanned out without the need for bundling of the filaments to a precise density in the tow.
|
