<p>1390180 Mixing apparatus COWIE & RIDING Ltd 9 Nov 1972 [19 Nov 1971] 53767/71 Heading B1C Mixing apparatus for mixing constituents of synthetic plastics material comprises a plurality of coaxial mixing chambers 14, 15, 16 through which the constituents pass in sequence, each chamber being substantially wholly occupied by a rotary mixing member 23, 24, 25 all of which are mounted on a common shaft 21 for rotation therewith. The mixing members are provided with concentric rungs of axially extending projections 29 which interengage with corresponding projections 30 on the inner walls of the mixing chambers. The constituents are supplied through port 31 at one end of the apparatus in the vicinity of the shaft support, and subsequently by way of passages 32, 33 to the projections on one side of the first mixing member 23 and thereby radially through the projections, around the outer peripheral chamber 34 and thence radially inward to be passed into the next chamber 15 by way of passage 19. The constituents are moved in a similar manner through all the chambers and ultimately through an outlet in the boss 13 concentric with the shaft 21 axis. Additives may be supplied to the constituents as they pass through the chambers at such places as ports 35 and 36. Although three coaxial chambers are shown with respect to the embodiment described two chambers only or more than three may be used. Coolant may be supplied to cavities formed between any two chambers.</p> |
