1485230 Feeding wires; making electric leads AMP Inc 20 Oct 1975 [26 Nov 1974] 42955/75 Headings B3W and B3A In the feeding of wires 32, 34 from reels 36, 38 to a device 12, such as a crimping tool, pressure is applied to a selected wire by, e.g. rollers 110, 112 to increase its length by forming a loop in it before both wires are cut between the reels and the location of the loop. At the start of a feeding step wires pass through guides T2, T1 and an open reciprocable clamp E and are clamped by a clamp B on a movable carriage A which holds a support D for guides T1, T2 fully retracted against the action of a spring S. As the carriage moves towards the device 12, releasing the support D, the rolls 110, 112 form the loop BL in wire 32. The carriage A is advanced almost to the device 12, the clamp E is closed and a blade assembly F is moved laterally of the wires into cutting position. Blades 534 sever the wire while insulating-cutting blades 538 cut through the insulation on the trailing ends of the cut wire leads and the leading ends of the wire stock. Moving the carriage to its fully advanced position and retracting the clamp E strips the severed lengths of insulation. The clamp B is lowered relative to the carriage A to deposit the leads in open barrel terminals projecting, e.g. from an electromagnetic coil bobbin 42. Crimping dies (44), Fig. 7 (not shown), are lowered, the clamp B is raised to a position higher than that of Fig. 1 and the blade assembly F is moved out of the feed path. While the carriage A is being retracted the rollers 110, 112 are returned to their initial position and the clamp E is closed and advanced to feed the new lengths of wire. The clamp B is lowered, the carriage A is moved to retract the support D against the spring S and the clamp B is closed to grip the wires for a new cycle. |
