<p>A pipe coil (20) coming from a solar energy collector is fixed to one side of a plate (18). A coil (22) going to a heating system is fixed to the other side. Narrow trenches are dug at regular intervals in the earth and such an assembly is inserted in each trench which is then backfilled. Thick solid slabs (16) of insulating material are buried in the earth round the whole array of embedded coils and a solid cover (14) of insulating material is buried below the surface above the coils. Construction enables a large and efficient thermal store to be constructed in a garden or the surroundings of a house with very little excavation.</p> |
