A plain cylindrical vessel is used in a physical process for purifying fluids, with or without pressure. They are clarified in a gradual and progressive manner by passage through a filter bed which may or may not be homogeneous, at a variable speed, so that there is a good retention accompanied by high filtration speeds. In the centre of the device there is a simple drain contg a prefilter through which the fluid is diffused. The prefiltered fluid is collected and diffused through the main filter bed by drains arranged around the inner periphery of the vessel. The speed of filtration can be increased without reducing the quality of the filtrate. The retaining power of the filter bed is greatly increased and higher filtration speeds are used. |
