Apparatus for producing antimony chlorides - by dissolving antimony powder in liq. antimony chloride and reacting with chlorine

The conversion of Sb powder into either Sb(III)- or Sb(V) chloride with chlorine from a suspension of Sn in liq. Sb(III) chloride is carried out in an appts. comprising (a) a heatable reaction vessel with chlorine feed inlet, inlet for the powder, distn. flange and outlet at bottom which is lined to a collecting vessel for Sb(V) chloride, (b) a purificn. column over the distn. flange which is fitted with a sieve plate for the solids packing, and a conical inlet tube at the top; and (c) a rising cooler behind column with outlet line which branches to reaction vessel and to the Sb(III) chloride collector, which can be cooled. Another branches leads to a chlorination column with air column and to Sb(V) chloride collector. A line leads from the head of cooler to a chlorine absorption unit.
