The gear lowers persons or loads with controlled speed. A sliding body has entries for the cable. The channel-like entries on each end of the body are connected by a spiral-shaped part with several coilings which provide a friction surface for the cable or rope running through it. The sliding body is fitted with an eyelet onto which the suspending fitting of te load-carrying harness can be attached by a spring clip. The person suspended from the gear controls the lowering speed by stretching or loosening the free end of the rope against, or away from the edge of the sliding body.
