A hollow article, particularly a self-staking nut (12), Fig. 1 (not shown), is made by coldforging a blank 32 in dies 30, 31 to form a head at one end and a skirt 32a at the other end, and then upsetting this other end to form a bulge, Fig. 7 (not shown). The bulge enables the staking of the nut into a plate, Fig. 3 (not shown). During forging, a web 35 is formed which is subsequently punched out. The shank (13) of the nut is of polygonal shape to prevent its rotation in the plate. |
