<p>1467736 Non-woven fabric; re-using waste material H O SUNDHAUSS 3 Sept 1974 [4 Sept 1973] 38418/74 Headings DIN and D1R A method of manufacturing non-woven fabric from non - woven fabric waste containing a thermoplastic binder resin comprises cutting the waste to a particle size of ¥ to 1 inch, hammer milling the cut waste to a size less than ¥ inch, blending it with textile fibres the bulk of whose length is greater than ¥ inch and forming the blend into a non- woven web e.g. by wet laying or by a Rando Webber. The textile fibres are preferably, though not necessarily, of the same material as the waste. The method is indicated diagramatically in Fig. 1 and a suitable hammer mill 14 is illustrated in Fig. 2. In this hammer mill material passes through a screen 40 which is cooled by air jets 30. Suitable ranges of proportions of waste and new material are disclosed and further binder can be added if there is insufficient in the waste material to suitably bind the finished product. The following fiber materials are referred to: polyurethane, polyethylene, acrylics, polypropylene polyester, nylon rayon, wool, cotton or a blend of any of these fibers. Suitable binders referred to are:- butadiene acrylonitrile, carboxylated-styrene-butadiene, polyvinylchloride and polyurethane. Suitable antistatic agents added at the cutting and hammer milling stage (see Fig. 1) are: propionamides, sulphonates, sulphonated or sulphated esters, sulphonated or sulphated oils, ammonium sulfide ester compounds, surfactant aldehyde mixtures and phosphate esters. Suitable fillers referred to are ground polyurethane wood pulp, rubber and silica. The fixing bath 18, Fig. 1, may contain aluminium sulphate.</p> |
