[Also in Division F4] In a sewage plant drying bed installation the dried sludge is scraped from the circular bed by a knife 10 into a bucket wheel elevator 9 movable along bridge 8 which is supported at the centre of the bed and at the boundary wall 6 of the bed and is rotatable over the bed. In one embodiment the circular bed is partitioned into segments some of which are covered by inclined rotatable roofs 5. The dried sludge is discharged from the wheel elevator 9 on to a belt conveyer on the bridge 8 and deposited therefrom at the end of the bridge into a vehicle detachably coupled to the bridge 8. The depth of penetration of the knife in the bed can be varied. Fresh sludge is supplied to the bed through the outlets 16, 17 in the conduits 13 on the bridge 8 via conduit 14. Water effluent is discharged via a chamber 20 and a conduit 18. In another embodiment the wheel elevator may be associated with two or more circular drying beds and may be moved from a bridge to a position of rest. The dried sludge may be discharged from the wheel elevator into a hopper, the elevator and hopper being mounted on an arm on the bridge and on which arm the hopper and elevator are displaceable when the hopper needs to be emptied. The bridge may carry means (e.g. ploughshares) for loosening the sludge during drying. The bed may be covered with a plastics cover.</p> |
