The snow chain in each case has an inner and an outer side-chain strand (1a-1l and 2a-2n, respectively) with closure parts (3a, 3b and 4a, 4b, respectively). The inner side-chain strand (1a-1l) can be made at least partially from plastic. The outer side-chain strand (2a-2n) is provided with an outer bent-lever closure (2f, 2g, 5, 6). The bent-lever closure comprises on one side of the bent-lever closure a junction ring (2f) and on the other side a guide ring (2g) and a chain tension strand (5) fastened to the junction ring (2f). The chain tension strand (5) is guided in a sliding manner through the guide ring and at the free end has a resilient clip (6) for securing to the tread net. The tread net has a chain loop which can be pulled apart in the untensioned state of the snow chain and can be pulled back together in the fitted state of the snow chain. Without using an auxiliary device the snow chain can be placed on a wheel, for example one buried in snow, joined together and tensioned. <IMAGE>
